It is perhaps not a surprise that Justin Bieber fans are the most “active” on Facebook, according to a ranking of brands by Fangager, a social media marketing consultancy. But the list does contain some delightful surprises for marketers trying to figure out how to use Facebook in their advertising plans. It also underlines how difficult it is to engage customers in a “relationship” with a brand that goes beyond a mere purchase.
Entertainment brands such as Zynga’s Texas Hold’em Poker, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry dominate, holding eight of the top 10 slots. The other two went to Manchester United and F.C. Barcelona. Here’s the top 20 (click to enlarge), you can see the full list here:
The ranking measures “active fans” by posts, comment and likes, so although Lady Gaga has more Facebook fans than Bieber, Bieber’s fans post more stuff on his wall. Britney Spears has surprisingly few fans — just 9.5 million compared to Katy Perry’s 22.5 million — but her fans are more rabid (on Facebook, at least) than those of Barcelona.
The top non-entertainment brand in the list is PlayStation, at No. 20, followed by Victoria’s Secret at No. 25 and Monster Energy at No. 26.
That’s an indicator of how hard it is for a non-human brand to gain traction in social media. It sounds obvious once you’ve looked at the ranking, but it isn’t obvious to advertisers who are searching for ways to use social media to make customers more brand loyal and cement sales. (The Pepsi v. Coke Facebook war is a great example of tough it can be to engage your own customers even in a market where loyalists despise the competing brand.)
The ranking also contains some wonderfully dippy juxtapositions: Why, for instance, are Skittles fans busier on Facebook than Usher fans? Is Mr. Bean really more interesting than Shakira, especially as there hasn’t been a new episode of Mr. Bean since 1995? Is it a sign of the Decline of Western Civilization that SpongeBob SquarePants is more popular than The Beatles? (No word from Jesus Christ at this point.)
Examine the list too long and you end up inside a self-referential meta-rabbit hole of social media meaninglessness. Who knew that Facebook had a Facebook page, and that 39 million people “like” it? (And given that Facebook has 600 million users, shouldn’t a few more of them actually like the service?)

The Dynamite hitmaker admits he's a fan of the teen megastar and revealed he's also going to be working with the Biebster on his next album.

Justin Bieber has been known to dabble in the world of rap. Not only does he perform the rap portion of "Baby" when he sings the song live — since Ludacris isn't always available to hit the stage with the singer — he even dropped a rap song this fall under the rap pseudonym Shawty Mane in which he raps over Vado and Cam'ron's "Speaking in Tungs."
Now fans are waiting for what Bieber and Young Money MC Lil Twist will share with the world on their mixtape, some of which Lil Twist teased might drop very soon. When MTV News caught up with Bieber on Sunday at the American Music Awards, he said he had no further details to share about the collaboration. "I don't know man," he said, with a smile on his face. "Lil Twist is my homey and we're working on stuff for fun."
Of course, even if the mixtape never sees the light of day, Bieber has plenty of projects already under way, including the releases of My Worlds Acoustic this Friday and his 3-D movie, "Never Say Never," next year. "I think this is only the beginning," he said. "There's so much more to come and I just hope that I have the career that Usher, my mentor, has had."

Although the AMAs are generally geared toward musicians that originate from the U.S., the awards show has been known to celebrate international artists because of their popularity in The States. We don't have to tell you how beloved Justin is in America, so it's really not so crazy for him to be nominated and performing at the show.
This year, JB is joined by other international stars like Rihanna and Coldplay, so he's not alone. Plus, with four nominations under his belt (just one less than top nominees Eminem and Lady Gaga), Bieber is who the fans want to see.
What do you think? Are you cool with Justin performing at the AMAs or do you think the award show should only honor American artists? The winners are determined by fan voting, so we'll see just how much people care about his nationality then. The American Music Awards will air live on Sunday, November 21 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

We would like to say that there was no change made in the area of the singer's eyes. We had a technical problem that darkens certain areas of the photo. We also want to say that all of us find Justin very naturally beautiful. We'd never think it's necessary to alter pictures of him. Natural beauty says it all, right?" (via Huffington Post)

What did you expect -- chess matches and intense political debates? Singer Jeremy Greene says life on the road as an opening act for Justin Bieber is a big old party, complete with Segways, water guns and practical jokes. But he's also blown away with the 16-year-old pop sensation's sheer talent.
US: So what's it like backstage before the show? Like how long do rehearsals usually take for you and Justin? Do you guys ever rehearse together or is it always separate?
JG: No, everybody does their own separate rehearsals. I am sure Justin always kind of rehearses first and then Sean and the openers kind of do their thing. It's kind of like the totem pole. When you get to Justin's level he kind of does what he needs done and everybody else gets their pick of times. The kid is super talented it's ridiculous! It's just ridiculous that he's that young and that talented but that goes to show you he's a star. Legitimately a star.
US: What impresses you most about him?
JG: Kids needed a Justin Bieber, because the Jonas Brothers weren't it. Realistically, they had their time and now its done and over with. But what's make Justin so dope is that he has like an urban vibe. He plays the drums and plays all these instruments. He is a star, and you cant really mold a star...Justin Bieber is star, Justin Timberlake is a star, Beyonce is a star. Those type of people are stars and born that way. I think the kid came out of the womb with a microphone.
US: And do you guys hang out a lot?
JG: Well, I haven't got a chance to get out there with them yet. I am heading out on December 9th but everyone is telling me to pack up water guns.
US: Uh oh. Yeah, I heard he is a prankster.
JG: Yeah. Everyone is like 'get water guns and lock your tour bus.' So yeah. I am just excited. The whole thing is going to be really sick and a lot of fun. We've done a bunch of shows with him so far and it's just been insane.
US: I hear there is a lot of Segway action going on backstage?
JG: Yeah.. the kid has a Segway yeah. Kid drives around on a Segway. Everyone is telling me there is like 30 Segways back there.
US: I was going to ask you how many were back there and do you plan on riding them too?
JG: Absolutely not. Sounds like a hazard.

When I am broken up with my girlfriend or she does something bad I put it up on Facebook, I am ridiculous. I just feel like someone is listening.

Conan O'Brien's show on TBS premieres on November 8, and he's leaving it up to his fans to decide who is first guest is. And the reason we care about this? Justin Bieber is on the list. But it's not looking good for Justin's fans. At the time of this blog, had only garnered a pitiful 87 votes and out of all 12 possibilities, which include famous figures from Lady Gaga to the Pope, Justin is currently dead last.

We think a Justin cameo would be hilarious due to the funny tweets he and Conan exchanged eary this year.
Justin will be in St. Louis, Missouri on November 8 for a concert stop on his My World 2.0 tour, so it seems unlikely that, if he wins, he would appear on Conan's show, which tapes in Los Angeles, California, in person. It would probably have to be over Skype.
